🔴 2026 Protest Deadline: May 15, 2026 — or 30 days after your Notice of Appraised Value is mailed, whichever is later. Miss this date and you waive your right to protest.

Kleberg County is named for Robert Kleberg, who managed the King Ranch in the late nineteenth century, and the county’s identity remains inseparable from the legendary Santa Gertrudis cattle operation that covers much of South Texas. Kingsville is the county seat and home to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, a historically significant institution in South Texas higher education. The county’s economy blends ranching, education, naval air station employment, and some Eagle Ford-related energy activity.

At 1.31%, Kleberg County’s effective rate is above the national median. Kingsville’s combined rates can be substantially higher in some parts of the city. More than half of those who protested in 2024 achieved reductions. For both residential owners in Kingsville and agricultural landowners throughout the county, the protest process is worth pursuing if your appraisal jumped. Your deadline is May 15, 2026.

“No person’s particular services shall be demanded, nor property taken or applied to public use, unless by the consent of himself or his representative, without just compensation being made therefor.”

— Section 13, Declaration of Rights, Republic of Texas, 1836

Kleberg County carries the name and legacy of the King Ranch — the ranching empire that shaped South Texas more than any other single enterprise. The founders of the Republic wrote that no property shall be taken without consent and just compensation. That principle protects the Kingsville homeowner and the Kleberg County rancher exactly as it protected the original settlers who built this land. Look up your value. File your protest. King Ranch country deserves a fair appraisal.
