Baylor County sits in the Rolling Plains of North Texas, anchored by Seymour and built on ranching, oil production, and wind energy. With one of the state’s smallest populations, Baylor’s appraisal district operates with limited staff covering an area where agricultural and mineral valuations drive most of the tax base. Property owners here rarely protest โ€” but the right to do so is fully available, and the process is the same as in any Texas county.

If your land, home, or business property value increased substantially, the protest process at Baylor County Appraisal District is straightforward. Contact the district at 211 N. Washington St., Seymour, TX 76380 before the May 15 deadline to start the process.

“No person’s particular services shall be demanded, nor property taken or applied to public use, unless by the consent of himself or his representative, without just compensation being made therefor.”

โ€” Section 13, Declaration of Rights, Republic of Texas, 1836

Baylor County is the kind of place the founders of this Republic were thinking about โ€” working people on working land, who built something real and expect their government to leave them to it. Texas law gives every property owner the right to protest, the right to a hearing, and the right to attend every public meeting where their tax rate is set. Those rights do not require a lawyer or a consultant. They require showing up. Look up your value. File your protest. Hold these officials accountable โ€” they serve at your pleasure.
